FAQ

Firearms CNC questions.

CIFProto is ITAR-registered for receiving controlled firearms technical data from US customers. Compliant with USML Category I (firearms, close assault weapons, and combat shotguns). Customer must be US person (citizen, permanent resident) or have appropriate export license. Finished parts shipped back to US customer — customer is re-exporter of record. We maintain ITAR-controlled workflow with access controls and file security.
Prototypes: design validation, pilot production, specialty/custom builds. Small quantities (1-50 units), higher per-part cost. Production: established design, ongoing volume. Hundreds to thousands of units. Lower per-part cost with amortized setup. We support both — prototype work transitions smoothly to production when designs validated.
Type III (hardcoat) anodize: 50-75 µm thick, 300-500 HV hardness, much more durable than Type II decorative anodize. Military spec MIL-A-8625 Type III. Limited color range (typically matte black, some grays). Standard for AR-platform receivers due to wear resistance. We provide Type III anodize as standard on firearms receivers.
Material certificates per EN 10204 3.1 standard on all firearms orders. Mill heat traceability for 7075 aluminum and 4140/4140 steel. For ATF compliance (firearms serialization), we mark receivers with manufacturer serial numbers per customer specification. Records retained indefinitely for ATF audit support.
Suppressor tubes, baffles, endcaps in 17-4 PH stainless or titanium. Precision thread interfaces for barrel mounting. Heat treatment to appropriate condition (H900 or H1025 for 17-4 PH). Nitride treatment for corrosion resistance. NFA manufacturing requires FFL license on customer side — we machine components per customer specification.
Small batch (10-50 parts): 2-4 weeks. Production runs (100-1000 parts): 4-8 weeks. New prototype development: 6-10 weeks including multiple iterations. Rush service available for customers with production deadlines. Our ITAR-registered status means we can work directly with US customers without export license complications.
