Hole basis

H7 baseline

Hole H7 (positive deviation, 0 to +X). Shaft varies.

Shaft basis

h6 baseline

Shaft h6 (negative deviation, 0 to -X). Hole varies.

Press fit

H7/p6

Standard press fit. Permanent assembly.

Slip fit

H7/g6

Sliding fit. Easy assembly, no clearance.

Running fit

H7/f7

Running clearance fit. Rotating shafts.

Free fit

H7/d10

Free running clearance fit.

FAQ

Hole-basis vs shaft-basis?

Hole-basis common for machined holes. Shaft-basis for ground shafts. Same outcome.

H7/p6 specifics?

H7 hole 0 to +0.025 mm (10 mm shaft). p6 shaft +0.014 to +0.026 mm. Press fit interference.

Class names?

Press fits, slip fits, running fits, free fits. Each has specific clearance/interference range.

Standard fit selection?

Bearing bores H7/h6 typical. Slip fits H7/g6. Press fits H7/p6 or n6.

GD&T vs ISO 286?

GD&T defines feature relationships. ISO 286 defines hole-shaft fits. Use either.

Specifying on drawing?

Note "10 H7" for hole, "10 p6" for shaft. Mating dimensions implied.
