FAQ

Sporting Goods questions.

Sporting goods customers expect premium appearance. Standard requirements: anodized aluminum with brand colors (Type II for most), Type III hardcoat on wear surfaces, laser engraving or CNC engraving for logos, mirror polish on feature surfaces. Brand-specific Pantone matching for corporate colors. Our cosmetic CNC work meets premium consumer standards.
Sporting goods are weight-sensitive. Material choices: 7075-T6 aluminum (strongest aluminum, enables thinner walls), Ti Gr.5 titanium (40% lighter than steel for same strength, premium cost). Topology optimization to remove non-load-bearing material. Heat treatment for maximum strength. Testing to ensure adequate safety margins despite weight optimization.
Climbing hardware, parachute components, safety equipment — have specific safety requirements. EN 12275 for climbing carabiners (22 kN major axis, 7 kN minor axis, 7 kN gate). Similar standards for other safety-critical equipment. Manufacturing requires: certified materials, dimensional inspection, proof testing where applicable, documented traceability. Customer typically holds safety certification; we provide compliant components.
Mass-market sporting goods: 10,000+ units per design annually. CNC cost-effective at this volume for simpler components; high-volume stamping, forging, casting often used for complex shapes. Boutique/premium: 500-5,000 units per design — CNC economical here. We serve both ranges — prototype through pilot production for mass market, full production for boutique.
US firearms industry work: requires ITAR-registered supplier (we qualify). Serialization on receivers per ATF requirements. Documentation chain for mandatory records. We handle firearms accessory manufacturing for FFL-licensed customers. For production firearms receivers (complete firearms regulated items), customer must hold appropriate FFL.
Sporting goods prototype: 2-4 weeks. Pre-production (50-200 parts): 3-6 weeks. Production quantities: 4-8 weeks. Seasonal considerations — pre-season ramp (e.g., winter gear in summer) drives schedules. Rush service available for urgent programs.
