Custom Packaging questions.

Foam inserts designed from part 3D model. Cavities cut to part shape with 1-2 mm clearance. Multiple cavities per insert for set packaging. Foam thickness selected for shock protection — typical 25-50 mm for most products. Polyethylene foam for general use, polyurethane for higher-end appearance, ESD foam for static-sensitive parts.
Custom packaging valuable for: (1) High-value parts where damage cost is significant. (2) Customer-facing products where unboxing matters. (3) Sensitive parts (medical, semiconductor, electronics) where cleanliness or ESD matters. (4) Production volumes justifying packaging design investment. For low-value commodity parts in bulk shipping: standard packaging adequate.
Custom branded boxes typically need volumes for cost-effective printing. Minimum economic quantity ~500-1,000 boxes per design. For lower volumes: stock white boxes with custom labels possible. For premium one-off products: custom hand-finished packaging available at higher per-unit cost.
For medical/semiconductor: parts cleaned to specification, packaged in ISO 7 (Class 10000) or ISO 8 (Class 100000) environment with HEPA filtration. Multi-layer packaging — inner cleanroom bag, outer protective bag, particle-controlled box. Particle counts documented during packaging. Customer receives parts ready for clean installation.
For international: ISPM-15 heat-treated wood crating per international shipping standards (no untreated wood allowed). Marking per customs requirements. Documentation per HTS classification. For air freight: lighter packaging acceptable. For ocean freight: more robust packaging due to longer transit and weather exposure.
For high-volume programs: returnable packaging possible. Customer returns empty containers, we re-use. Reduces packaging cost and waste. Common in automotive supply chain (returnable plastic bins). Setup time and tracking required — economical for ongoing production with stable volumes.
